Hello

Hello everyone, my name is Pranav Patoori and I'm the newest writer/Editor of the FLAME Blog. Rather than telling you about me, which is completely irrelevant anyway, I thought I'd have this post focus more on the direction this blog will take in the coming months.

At the moment, we are days away from the start of the Preparatory Program for PG Students at FLAME. That means we are days away from the opening of FLAME. My fellow Editor, and founder of this blog, Rahul and I spent a few days discussing what direction we should take this blog. The first idea that occurred to us was to report on everything going on at FLAME. It was the natural choice, and it was easy to do. Finding out about anything in FLAME wouldn't be hard, since we are a fairly small class.

Then we started thinking that that would be more along the lines of something a newspaper would do, rather than a blog. Reporting on things tends to leave a rather dry feel, and make for a boring read in the long run. Rahul and I wanted to keep this blog as more of a human thing rather than a newsreel.

So in the coming months, this blog will talk about stuff happening at FLAME. What it will not do is merely be a substitute newspaper. We plan on focusing more on our stories and experiences within FLAME. What we learn through our interactions with the faculty, the visiting faculty, and the Management. The experience of the admissions process, the wait, how the Union Dinner was. It will focus on what is happening behind-the-scenes. We'll talk about everything from the formation of clubs, the newspaper, to the process behind exams.

What we want is for this blog to become a resource for both current FLAME students, and for prospective ones. So if there's an event being planned at FLAME, you'll find out info about it here. You'll get to read about ideas thrown around, who came up with the original plan for it, and what the reaction/opinion to that is.

I, however, do not want this blog to become a random creativity outlet. A lot of you guys are talented at so many things. I could take a girl named Pankti off the top of my head who writes amazing poetry. There are people on the Facebook community who write insanely deep short stories. What I don't want to see is this blog become the publishing place for those. One, it limits the audience that these people might have, and that would be horrid. The second thing is that it detracts from the main value of the blog, and it's focus.

The biggest thing, however, is that this blog remains fluid. We do not want our mandate set in stone, and not grow beyond that. For that, we need your help. Any ideas, questions, concerns, ANYTHING, is always appreciated. If you think you might be a good writer for this blog, or that you know someone who might be, let us know.

We're also looking for people with pictures, mainly ones with students and Faculty rather than buildings. I think we've all accepted that those are more important than buildings.

So until next time, which will probably be this evening, I'm out.

Dear Pranav,

I take great pride today on the following two counts:

First, a person young and talented and burning with a desire to perform and also to take the name and the cause of Flame further, becoming a part of this Blog in the form of a new writer/Ed.

Second, a person of such mettle getting motivated enough to join this blog as a new writer/Ed.

If I talk of this Blog, it already has around 40 visitors each day, and the total number of people who have viewed this Blog from its inception about a week back till date is over 500. This blog for reasons completely unknown to me, has been viewed in over 12 countries including places like Canada, Norway, Australia, etc. just to name a few.

All this is not on account of just the values and the principles that this Blog has decided to adhere to and been stuck with since its inception. I owe its success to all the Institute more than any credit to myself or the work which I have been able to put up till date.

The first visit to the campus has ignited a fire within me which I am sure is burning in most of my batch mates. This is all only because of the strong foundation which FLAME has built for itself and the dream that it seeks to achieve. We have become a part of this dream even before we got our offer letters in hand or maybe we were in a position to call ourselves as students of FLAME.

This dream is now not only the dream of the Management and Faculty but also a responsibility of the students including Pranav, myself and every single person who will enter the valley on the 9th or the 16th of the coming month and remain there till he/she is blessed with the fountain of knowledge and experiece.

The 'yatra' has begun and I wait for my 'guru' in the 'pathshala'. I yearn for the moment when I would get to touch FLAME for the first time and forever.

This Blog is a very small part of this 'yatra'. This Blog is trying to learn and inculcate values from the elders who have envisioned this 'yatra'. This 'Blog' is an outcome of their desires to make us excel.

I could speak all night about our college and the mission which starts with the beginning of the first session early next month, but I would try and control myself here.

This is probably the first and the last of my emotional outbursts out of joy. I have contrained my emotions till date to be able to provide this Blog a shape as well as a form which could in a very small way show it to be the moon of this planet called FLAME. I have taken up a job for myself and its just the beginning.

I welcome you on board. And so do I welcome all those great spirits who have already become a part of this institution. I feel proud to see all the action and the passion which the people have shown till date. My personal hero being Vikram who is working shoulder to shoulder with General Mehta and all the 1400 workers on the site. I feel proud by this very thought and this re-inforces my feeling of doing my job even better in future.

I know that I still dont have complete acceptance from my other batch mates. However, I want to win their hearts over time, with my work. And so will we at flamepune.blogspot.com make an effort to win the hearts and also to outshine the name of this noble mission.

Let the FLAME flag shine high and bright.

Cheers,
